The State Book Chamber of the republic of Kazakhstan was established by join decree of the Kaz CEC and CHK of the Kazakhstan on 19 July 1937.

According the resolution of the Cabinet of the Ministry of the Republic of Kazakhstan № 270 from 6 April 1993, it was renamed to the national State Book Chamber of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Since then, Chamber has been going through registration and distribution of publications between major libraries of the republic to the Republican Centre of publications, reference-information work and main storage for the whole publications of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The main purpose of the national Chamber is realization of the State Education program on Publication Archives of the Kazakhstan, Republican Scientific Centre of bibliography, publication statistics, centralized catholicization, registration and scientific polishing up all of publications that are published in the territory of Kazakhstan as well as realization of the International Standard Book Numbering principles, International Standard Serial numbering, International, coding of published materials, Library Bibliographical Classification, Universal Decimal Classification.
